Simplified 2024-25 FAFSA coming in December 2023
FAFSA

Oakland University students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to become eligible for federal, state and institutional aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and the work-study program.

Historically, the FAFSA has been available beginning October 1 each year. As a result of simplification, Federal Student Aid expects to release the 2024-25 FAFSA in December 2023.

The exact date of the 2024-25 FAFSA is still to be determined, but Oakland University’s Student Financial Services Office will communicate updates about the FAFSA release as they are available.

“It is important for both current and prospective OU students to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA as soon as it is available,” said OU’s Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships Nicole Boelk. “Financial aid offers will not be released until later in the spring, but completing the FAFSA allows for Student Financial Services to package financial aid as soon as they are able, which in turn helps students and families to plan for the upcoming school year.”

Changes to the FAFSA form for the 2024–25 aid year include expanded eligibility for federal student aid and a more streamlined application process.

Families can prepare for the release of the 2024-25 FAFSA by creating studentaid.gov log-in credentials (formerly known as FSA IDs) for both the student and parents or spouse, if applicable, if they don't already have them. They can also review information published on OU’s website regarding the 2024-25 FAFSA delay and anticipated changes.

Current OU undergraduate and graduate students who need help completing the FAFSA, once it is released, can call, email or visit Student Financial Services to speak with an adviser or register for a virtual FAFSA Workshop. OUWB medical students who need help renewing their FAFSA can visit OUWB Financial Services.
